CFAB is an unique independent charity and part of an international network which acts to promote and protect the rights and welfare of children, adults and families whose personal circumstances require intercountry liaison.
With the ever increasing movement of the world’s population across borders and continents, whether voluntary or forced, family members often become separated by international borders, and such separation may leave family members vulnerable and at risk. ISS seeks to promote and protect the rights of these families, children and other vulnerable adults across international borders, according to the UN Convention on Human Rights and on the Rights of the Child.
CFAB's vision is a world where every child, parent and family member has the right to enjoy each other's company in a secure environment, free from exploitation and international legal barriers.

International Social Service is a non-profit organisation that was established in 1924 in Geneva, Switzerland. Initially, its purpose was to offer its services to families who had become separated when migrating from Europe and the Middle East to America.
International Social Service UK was founded in the aftermath of World War II to address family welfare issues throughout Europe and beyond and in 1955, it was established as the UK branch of the International Social Service network and became a registered charity.
In January 2010 ISS UK changed its working name to Children and Families Across Borders. CFAB is the UK branch of the International Social Service (ISS) network.
