Eurochild is an international network of organisations and individuals working in and across Europe aiming to improve the quality of life of children and young people.
Eurochild's work and CFAB’s work is underpinned by the principles enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Eurochild currently has 98 Member Organisations in 34 European countries (both within and outside of the EU). CFAB joined Eurochild network in March 2009.
Eurochild organise meetings and conferences to facilitate debate and exchange knowledge and experience and circulate information on specific aspects of child poverty and social exclusion. We are hoping that it will help us to develop partnerships, share information on policies and good practice between member organisations that promote the rights and welfare of children and young people across Europe. Eurochild seeks with its members to monitor and influence policy development at a national and European level.
- May 2009: CFAB participated to the compilation of national surveys on the situation of children without parental care across the European Union. It represents a snapshot of the situation in 19 of the 27 EU member states plus Moldova. The survey is not intended to be scientifically rigorous, or necessarily to have comparable data across countries, rather to assess what information and data is available, how the gaps can be filled, and, importantly, how this information can contribute to Eurochild's campaign to eradicate child poverty and social exclusion. - 17th and 18th June 2009: Eurochild General Assembly and Policy Forum, Brussels. During the Policy Forum, ISS UK joined the thematic working group Children Without Parental Care. This working group is focusing on the interlinkages between poverty, social exclusion and children who are in, at risk of going into, or leaving alternative care. The synergy between child protection policies and anti-poverty/ social inclusion strategies is being explored to give direction to policy recommendations at EU and Member State level.
- Prague 23rd and 24th June 2009: Members’ Exchange Seminar on “Poverty, Social Exclusion and Children without Parental Care: Making the Links”. This member’s exchange seminar facilitated debate and exchange knowledge and experience on specific aspects of child poverty and social exclusion. 26 countries attended the seminar. Together we are campaigning for...
- No child or young person should be taken into care because of poverty and social exclusion.
- No child or young person in care should be disadvantaged by poverty and social exclusion.
- No young person should leave alternative care to fall into a situation of poverty and social exclusion.
- Children and young people in the care system and their families should be empowered to influence decisions that affect their lives
- Policies aimed at preventing the separation of children from their families must be based on quality data to ensure needs are understood and interventions are effective.
